About Us

Estate First Lawyers is a unique law firm focused on estate planning law. We are the largest firm of its kind in Queensland, with seven estate planning lawyers providing the full range of estate planning service from simple Wills through to the most complex, sophisticated estate plans.

A Will is not enough.

You may think that a Will is sufficient to deal with all of your affairs on death, but the surge in litigation cases in this area tell another story. A Will does not control your superannuation, life insurance, most assets that you hold jointly or trust assets. Blended families add a further layer of complexity and it is very easy for children of the first marriage to miss out on an inheritance, or the second spouse to not be adequately protected. Without proper planning, your inheritance is at risk of going L-shaped (that is, to people who you did not intend to benefit) or getting bogged down in legal red tape, all because the proper estate planning was not put in place now.

Our Team

Our Team is passionate about estate planning and we have committed our careers to it. Estate First brings together some of the best estate planning lawyers in Queensland, including two Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialists in Succession Law.

Our Service and Fees

Because we focus on estate planning, we provide an efficient, cost effective service. We also offer first time estate planning clients a fixed fee consultation of $295 + GST for up to 1.5 hours of consultation time with an estate planning lawyer. In that time you will receive valuable, tailored advice. If the meeting extends beyond 1.5 hours you are only charged our hourly rate from that point.* At the end of the meeting we are usually able to provide you with a comprehensive, tailored estate planning solution (Wills including testamentary trusts, superannuation, enduring powers of attorney and other documents as necessary) along with a written fixed fee quote. You are under no obligation to proceed. If you do proceed with a new Will, the $295 + GST fee is absorbed into the Will price.

As a service to our clients, we also offer a full estate administration service (that is, finalising your affairs after death). Implementing your testamentary wishes is our priority and we take our responsibility to protect and guide your loved ones through the process seriously. A strong knowledge of tax and superannuation law also can save your estate significant tax expense. Generally the first step in administering an estate is for the executor/s to meet with one of our experienced lawyers to discuss the steps required and receive expert advice. Our costs for meeting with the executor/s are payable out of the estate so that they are not left ‘out of pocket’ for getting good advice.

*Lawyer hourly rates range from $260 per hour to $410 per hour (excl. GST).
